temperatures, but can burn with the help

1. How can you tell if a chemical reaction has occurred?

Answer Smoke is given off, color changed from white to black,and heat is given off.

2. Why would you need to use potassium nitrate for this to happen?

Answer Sugar is not highly flammable at the temprature match creates, therefore, potassium nitrate is mixed with sugar so it will burn.

3. Do you think this experiment would give off a smell?

Answer Yes! It gives a smell of burning sugar.

Melvin Calvin was born April 8, 1911, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1961 for Chemistry for his study of the biological process of photosynthesis in plants. He then turned his attention to formulating theories on the chemical evolution of life. He also conducted solar energy research including studies of the possibilities of artificial photosynthesis.
